There is so much to do during the summer months in Sanibel, Florida! We love this relaxing, stress-free, and beautiful coastal area of the Sunshine State. Compared to Orlando and Disney World, this area is very relaxed and perfect for tourism for locals who want to simply hang out at the beach, enjoy quality seafood, and spend a nice time with their friends and family.

Let’s check out some of the top Sanibel events to do between June and September in the sunny and beautiful state of Florida.

5th Annual Captiva Ville Songwriters Weekend

Do you have a creative bone in your body? If so, you might be included in signing up for the Captiva Ville Songwriters Weekend! Let your emotions flow onto the page and submit your piece to the judges at the ‘Tween Waters Island Spa, featuring the island’s biggest music festival with singers, songwriters, artists, and other musicians. This fun weekend has more than 72 hours of fun, live music, upbeat songs, and great vibes.

Family-Friendly Movie Nights

The Sanibel Public Library offers family-friendly movie nights per week all summer long that are great for kids of all ages. We love coming here with toddlers and younger children when you want to watch an animated or family-friendly flick that lets you get out of the heat and bond with your family! Head here on Mondays at 1 pm to grab a good spot with a bowl of popcorn.

Wine Tasting with Cali

Are you a wine connoisseur? If not, then you might want to learn a little bit more about what tastes good with red wine and what tastes best with sweet white wine. Head to the Captiva Civic Center main hall to enjoy Wine Tasting: Curated Wines with Cali, an infamous and well-renowned liquor steward for Bailey’s Island Store. You can pair some of the best pours of wine with yummy hors d’oeuvres made by the Sanibel Catering Company.

Island Skills: Planting with a Purpose

Head to the Bailey Homestead in Sanibel, Florida, to take part in the Island Skills: Planting with a Purpose throughout the summer. This is a great way to spend time outside in nature and forget to watch TV or play video games all day! This event is great for younger children and teenagers who can help plant trees and aid the local community. Pair with the Sanibel Sea School to help with mangrove restoration, plant propagules, and help the sea!

4th of July Sanibel Events

The Fourth of July in Sanibel is one of the biggest events of the entire year! People flock here from all over the country to enjoy the celebrations, fireworks, and live music. We recommend going to the free pancake breakfast at the Sanibel Community Church on Periwinkle Way between 7 am and 9 am. You can then walk to the beginning of the parade, starting at Tarpon Bay Road or the Bailey’s Center, to grab a good spot and set up a few chairs.

After the parade, get your adrenaline going with the 4th of July Road Rally at Timbers Parking Lot. To end the day with some excitement, head to Bayside on Bailey Road or Lighthouse Beach to watch the infamous fireworks light up the dark sky!

Another great way to have an amazing algae point of the fireworks is to take a fireworks cruise on one of the Sanibel Island boat tours. Take the Sanibel high-speed Thriller out on the lake to cruise super quickly and get your blood pumping! During this narrated tour from a professional, you will be able to sail along the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, past landmarks like the Sanibel Lighthouse, and see marine life, flora, and fauna.

You can also take an Adventures in Paradise tour during the summer months. We love this tour since it brings you up close and personal with dolphins, otters, an odd shark, manatees, seahorses, and shells that float along the water’s surface! Hop on the trolley afterward for a complete tour of his beautiful island.

Lastly, the Excellent Adventure Airboat Tours puts on knowledgeable and invigorating half-day and full-day tours that offer unique, infamous, and one-of-a-kind tours that put you up close and head-on with some of the biggest animals, flora, and fauna in the entire state. Wander your way through the Everglades to take pictures of the herons, alligators, and flamingos that are natural in this area. We love doing this with kids for a fun day outside in the beautiful and untouched nature of the Sunshine State!

Does this sound like the perfect vacation for you? We think so too! Sanibel has something to offer anyone and everyone who wants to see all that Florida has going on during the summer months. The best part? Florida is super busy during the summer months, so you can hit up the beach, go surfing, eat yummy seafood, and attend annual events that you will never forget.
